When to choose the alternative

You want audio and screenshots on your Anki cards automatically.
You are learning Japanese and want furigana and pitch-accent support.

Depth versus simplicity

Migaku is a serious toolkit. Its extension hooks into streaming players, its card creation captures audio and a screenshot alongside the sentence, and its Japanese support is among the best available. The cost is setup: an extension, companion software, and Anki configured to match. For committed learners, especially of Japanese, that setup pays for itself.

Nativra removes the setup. It is a web page: paste a link, upload a file, start reading along. Cards are text plus a timestamp rather than text plus audio, and the input is limited to YouTube and subtitle files. That makes it easier to start and usable on a phone, at the cost of the richer card and broader site support.
